Performances of the Year
The holiday season is all about music. It’s also a great time to look at your investment portfolio to see how you did over the year. To make that process a bit more festive and fun, we turned investment data for 5 popular assets into a 5 song EP. Instead of looking at more charts, our clients could kick back with an egg nog and listen to the performance of some of their favourite assets.
We collected historical daily price data for the S&P 500, TSX, Gold, Bitcoin, and the Canadian Dollar. We normalized the prices into percentage form, and then converted those values into MIDI notes ranging from a very low C to a very high C, with x number of notes in between.
We brought the MIDI note data into a digital audio workstation (Reaper). From there we set the tempo and note length, and played the notes in sequence, triggering various software and hardware instruments to create each melody.
We shared our “EP” on December 24th and despite the hustle and bustle of the holidays, this was one of our most engaging posts of the year with lots of love from our clients in the comments.
